Managing Director, Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Terraz, yesterday, commissioned the 12 units Doctors’ Quarters project the companies donated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH, in Akwa Ibom.
The project, implemented by Total Upstream Company (TUPNI), on behalf of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and the Deep Offshore Communities Affairs Group, DOCAG, comprises other oil multi-nationals such as; Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company of Nigeria, SNEPCO, Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, STARDEEP, ESSO Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, ESSO, and Nigeria Agip Exploration (NAE).
The MD, who was represented at the ceremony by the Executive General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Engr. Vincent Nnadi said, the project was a major boost to the capacity of the hospital to provide prompt and adequate medical care to patients.
He said, the importance of adequate accommodation for the Resident Doctors cannot be over-emphasized given the nature of their work adding that with the completion of the 12 units’ accommodations, it would help enhance the working conditions of the Resident Doctors in the hospital.
Chief Medical Director, UUTH, Prof. Etete Peters commended the rapid response of Total Upstream Nigeria Limited to the hospital’s request for assistance in the area of accommodation; noting that the gesture would go a long way to ameliorate the accommodation needs of the institution.
