The nominations for the 2024 Community & Human Rights Africa Awards ended on July 14th, 2024, and the Awards team are thrilled to announce that they received an astounding 425 nominations. Each nomination is a testament to the extraordinary contributions to community development and human rights across Africa, making us all proud and inspired.
The overwhelming number of nominations highlights the dedication and impact of individuals and organisations committed to making a difference. From grassroots initiatives to large-scale projects, the diversity and quality of nominations demonstrate Africans’ unwavering commitment to fostering positive change in our communities.
Regrettably, the CAHR Africa Awards committee has announced that there will be no recipient for the Ken Saro Wiwa Environmental Management category in the 2024 Community & Human Rights Africa Awards. Despite a thorough review of all nominations received by the deadline, none of the candidates met the high standards required for this prestigious category.
The Ken Saro Wiwa Environmental Management category is given to the company that has had the least negative environmental impact in the last three years, has contributed to impact mitigation with state-of-the-art technology, and has a proven commitment to managing its environmental footprints. The high standards for this category are set to honour the legacy of Ken Saro Wiwa and to encourage companies to strive for excellence in their environmental footprints.
“This is not an outcome the team would have wanted.” said the Chairman of the Committee, “However, it reflects the stringent standard set by the legacy of Ken Saro Wiwa. We are optimistic that with dedication and hard work, future nominations will produce candidates who will rightfully carry on this legacy.”
The awards committee extends its gratitude to all those who participated in the nomination process and looks forward to celebrating the exceptional individuals and organisations in other categories at the upcoming CAHR Africa Awards 2024 ceremony.
