The 2024 CAHR Africa Awards celebrated remarkable achievements across six categories, acknowledging individuals and organisations for their impactful contributions. A unique recognition was given to select individuals and companies that have shown an extraordinary commitment to advancing sustainable human development.
Award Winners
Omotoyosi Odufuye, Winner of the Hajiya Gambo Sawaba Community Impact Award Category: Omotoyosi’s Anibi Omotoyosi Foundation (AOF) improves children’s lives through health and educational interventions. AOF has benefited over 6,000 individuals with medical outreaches, scholarships, vocational training, and psychosocial support. The Foundation also renovated facilities in juvenile correctional institutions and provided educational materials and scholarships to over 500 pupils. AOF aims to expand its impact through strategic partnerships aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Bukar Mohammed (ably represented by Mr. Azeez Kayode), Winner of the Apostle Hayford Alile Humanitarian Award: Bukar Mohammed’s Humanitarian Network for Northern Nigeria empowers women and youth through skills training, scholarships, and health campaigns. His initiatives have reduced malaria incidence, supported peace efforts, and promoted youth leadership in peace and security.

Mercy Odondo, Winner of the Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Human Rights Award: Mercy Odondo is a human rights defender and founder of The Kenya Annual Human Rights Debate and Gender Dialogues. Her initiatives create safe spaces for women and girls to discuss issues like gender-based violence and reproductive health. Mercy’s work empowers women to advocate for their rights and participate in decision-making, providing educational resources, mentorship, and life skills training through partnerships.

Yield Africa, Winner of the MKO Abiola Community Engagement Award: Yield Africa Foundation offers vocational training for women and youth, including tie-and-dye, catering, and photography. They support vulnerable households with food and medical assistance and run programmes focusing on empowering women and youth in various communities.

Tech Herfrica, Winner of the Josephine Nkemdilim Masade Award for Gender Equality: Tech Herfrica empowers rural women and girls through digital and financial literacy, impacting 4,080 participants across 22 Nigerian communities. The initiative provided mobile devices, enabling e-commerce and social media engagement, leading to increased income and adoption of agritech and fintech technologies. The programme also promoted health insurance and long-term savings plans.

Ifenla Oligbinde, represented by her sister, Anuoluwapo Oligbinde, Winner of the Mallam Aminu Kano Award for Leadership: Ifenla Oligbinde is a lawyer and inclusion advocate with a focus on women and youth participation in politics. As Principal Partner of Ark and Rainbow Development Foundation, her work has led to policy frameworks for greater inclusion in Nigeria’s 2023 General Elections and mentoring over 1,500 women and youths, ensuring continued empowerment for future generations.
