LASEPA Staff Banned from Plastics and Pet Bottles

The Lagos State Government in a bid to stress the use of biodegradable materials or plastic bottles have revealed concerns over the incorrigible use of pet bottles and plastics by Lagos State residents and it’s the negative impacts it poses on the environment.

The government has declared a formal ban on the use of plastics and pet bottles among the staff of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Mrs Belinda Odeneye, who disclosed this, expressed concerns, over the surge in the manner Lagosians use Polythene, single-use plastics, and other biodegradable items.

She showed appreciation to LASEPA for their advocacy on reusable plastics and for being a pacesetter in environmental sustainability and noted that the Ministries, Departments, and Agency (MSAs) of the government can emulate.

The permanent Secretary admonished Lagosians, to take into consideration the implications of their disposition towards the environment, as unhealthy environmental behaviour poses a serious threat to the lives of every resident.

LASEPA General Manager, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, has said that the agency is leading the way to aid environmental protection with the ban in place.

On what the residents of Lagos should expect, Fasawe disclosed that LASEPA would focus on air quality to cushion the effects of air pollution, especially among vulnerable age groups, particularly the elderly and babies.
