First City Monument Bank, established in 1982 has a mission to attain the highest levels of customer advocacy, be a great place to work and deliver superior and sustainable returns to our shareholders. The bank has a vision to be the premier financial services group of African origin. The bank has a total of 206 branches with 7.1 million customers in Nigeria. FCMB also has a banking subsidiary in the United Kingdom. It also has a total of 3, 893 staff.

FCMB states that it understands that its business decisions and the methods by which it engages its key stakeholders affect not only the organisation but also the communities and environment that support its operations. The bank is committed to adding value to all our key stakeholders in the spirit of its slogan “My Bank and I”. FCMB’s CSR philosophy includes 5 components which are charitable gifts, community investment, commercial initiatives, mandatory contributions and business basics. The bank devotes 10% of its CSR budget to charitable gifts and 90% to community investments.

Community investment consists of three focus areas which are poverty alleviation, economic empowerment and environment. The bank believes that communities it works in should benefit from its presence. Employees are also encouraged to volunteer towards community activities that align with the banks CSR pillars. The banks CSR initiatives are focused on investing in the communities in which FCMB operates and are implemented through strategic projects designed to maximise impact and ensure positive, long term sustainability.

2020 Highlights

SLUM ART: SDG’s Children’s Day Celebration

FCMB partnered with WeForGood and Slum Art Foundation to bring together over 200 children in the slum of Ijora- Badia, Lagos and endow them with skills on Art and painting of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Volunteer employees created time to impact the children on the 2019 children’s day. The project was focused on Grooming Global Champs from the slum with the SDGs as a stepping stone. Employees of the bank shared personal stories in a bid to instil good moral values and encourage the kids to aim for a brighter future. This project was done in recognition that everyone matters in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
