The Nigerian media, technology and telecommunications industry is currently self-aware and responding to the harsh realities of business with shifting trends, tough competition, regulatory uncertainty, and so on. Although the sector accounts for 23.06% of Nigeria’s GDP, there is a widespread understanding that in order to be viable in the current industry, existing products must be recreated, diversification into new sectors for which capabilities and resources are available should be explored, general business processes must be improved, and the regulatory landscape must be navigated.
Key Regulations and Principles
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is the country’s independent telecommunications regulatory authority. On November 24, 1992, the [Federal Military] Government of Nigeria issued Decree No. 75, which established the NCC. The NCC was tasked with regulating the supply of telecommunications services and facilities, promoting competition, and establishing performance standards.
