Overall Purpose of Job
Through effective management, oversee ESG compliance and reporting processes across Oando PLC and its subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with the Group ESG Strategy Framework, regulatory requirements, and sustainability objectives. Lead a team in monitoring and reporting ESG metrics, ensuring adherence to internal policies, statutory obligations, and international ESG standards. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, business partners, and shareholders, while addressing ESG-related due diligence inquiries and stakeholder responses promptly. Provide strategic oversight to ensure the Board of Directors and Executive Management fulfill sustainability commitments across all operational jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
• Advise and guide the Chairman, Board of Directors, and stakeholders on their ESG related duties and responsibilities, ensuring adherence to the Group ESG Strategy Framework and Sustainability related legislation, rules, and policies.
• Foster a culture of Sustainability/ESG compliance across the Group by developing, implementing, and delivering comprehensive policies, procedures, and training for management, employees, and other stakeholders.
• Design, develop, and implement ESG reporting templates and dashboards to monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) in alignment with the company’s sustainability strategy.
• Lead the execution of the Group’s ESG strategy by embedding sustainability principles in board decisions and business processes, reinforcing global ESG and sustainability standards.
• Coordinate with other departments and teams within the company to ensure cross-functional alignment on ESG objectives.
• Monitor, track, and report on the set ESG KPIs in alignment with the Boardapproved ESG Strategy. Collaborate with the ESG Goalholders to address ESG related gaps by formulating and implementing plans that align with business realities.
• Draft and deliver detailed ESG reports, including annual sustainability compliance reports, to ensure transparent, accurate, and timely ESG performance data for internal and external stakeholders.
• Oversee the preparation and submission of ESG-related financial reports, statutory meeting documentation in compliance with reporting requirements for national and international regulatory frameworks.
• Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure the accuracy and completeness of ESG reporting and manage the resolution of control issues related to ESG data identified during audits in a timely manner.
• Maintain the corporate ESG database, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of recorded sustainability data and reports.
• Develop strategies to engage stakeholders, including shareholders, regulators, and business partners, ensuring transparency and compliance with sustainability regulations.
• Develop and implement strategies to achieve the company’s corporate sustainability goals while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory obligations and the UNSDGs. Engage with key stakeholders to align sustainability initiatives, track progress toward goals, and adapt strategies as needed to optimize outcomes and maintain regulatory adherence.
• Develop, implement, and advise on the interpretation and application of relevant ESG laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements across the entire group.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with regulators and relevant governance organizations, ensuring the company fulfils all ESG-related obligations.
• Manage project budgets and resource allocation within ESG operations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of ESG professionals, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve strategic goals and organizational values.
• Support performance management and succession planning by identifying team strengths and areas for improvement, creating opportunities for growth and engagement.
• Carry out all such other tasks as may be assigned by the Divisional Manager, Sustainability/ESG or the CSO/GM, GRC

• Process turnaround time as measured against existing SLAs
• Level of adherence of company to its ESG strategy, internal policies and national regulations

Person Specification
• A good first degree in Law, Environmental Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years PQE gained in a large private company, public limited company professional firm with significant exposure to ESG compliance and reporting
• Sound knowledge and experience of in Sustainability and ESG compliance frameworks, including global standards and best practices.
• Professional certification in Sustainability or ESG Reporting, such as GRI Sustainability Professional Certification or GARP’s Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certification will be an added advantageous.
• Ability to to effectively manage and deliver complex, multi-stakeholder projects under high-pressure situations, including compliance reporting and stakeholder engagement.
• Good team player with excellent communication skills
Required Competencies
• In-depth Knowledge of ESG Principles, Regulations, Corporate Governance and Corporate Law and Regulations in Nigeria as well as international best practices.
