Scaling Better: IHS Joins Forces with GRI for the SDGs at the Business Leadership Forum

IHS Towers, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) along with other private sector organisations demonstrated their commitment to driving corporate action by scaling performance on the SDGs in a forum that kicked off Wednesday, 24th March 2021.

Recent years have induced major changes to business processes requiring investments in organisational change and technology. Recently, business models require a mix of sustainability culture and governance. Without these complementary investments in organizational change, technology simply cannot deliver tangible results.

As the world looks ahead to the Decade of Action and the pandemic recovery phase, the case for meaningful corporate reporting on the SDGs is more compelling than ever before. For an organisation like IHS Towers, sharing their sustainability stories through the GRI lenses has become more relevant than before GRI is an international independent organisation that helps businesses, governments and other organisations understand and communicate the impact of businesses in critical sustainability issues. Building on the four years of pioneer work shaping the future of reporting on the SDGs, GRI launched a two-year thought leadership group, the Business Leadership Forum (BLF) 2021-2022. The two-year forum is built around a series of sessions, drawing participation from key stakeholder groups such as investors, governments, regulators, supply chain, civil society and academia.

IHS Towers was part of the BLF Kick-off session which provided an opportunity for the organisation’s sustainability team to connect with peers from leading international organisations such as ABB, Baxter, Cemex and Eni.

As the organisation sustains its thought leadership status in the telecommunication sector in Nigeria, the BLF remains a credible opportunity to raise the quality of SDGs reporting. It is the goal of IHS to co-create resources to support the Nigerian telecommunications sector to deliver on the SDGs through the masterclasses that will be used to communicate to stakeholders.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were born with a purpose to produce a set of universal goals that would help combat the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges facing our world today. The beauty of the global goals is that everyone can contribute to making an impact in their communities and the world around us.

As the GRI aims to achieve the private sectors’ shared goal of the SDGs through the BLF, IHS Towers is dedicated to act as an agent for stimulating conversations and partnerships within the Telecommunications Technology Sustainability Working Group (TTSWG), a collaborative effort aimed at yielding joint action among key telecommunications and technology stakeholders, and other networks.

For the organisation, it is not just about scaling more CSR initiatives it’s about investing strategically by scaling better.
