They operate video-entertainment subscriber platforms in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and other sub-Saharan countries (50 countries in total) and offer satellite (DTH), digital terrestrial television (DTT), over-the-top (OTT) and related video-entertainment services for a monthly charge.

Social Impact

The SuperSport Let’s Play Programme has been at the forefront of the Group’s CSR for more than 14 years in the drive for a healthier generation of young people. Through Let’s Play, young children from 8 to 14 years have benefited from a variety of sporting activities and programmes in a fun and engaging manner. Besides the fun, Let’s Play is also at the forefront of the battle against rising childhood obesity levels; inactivity and the resultant social ills confronting young people in various communities.

The sporting activities and programmes under the programme includes:

– The Let’s Play Physical Education Challenge in partnership with UNICEF seeks to re-introduce curriculum-orientated physical education at the primary school level.

– The Let’s Play Playing Fields Project which gives disadvantaged schools and communities access to sporting facilities through the construction of multi-purpose sports courts and rudimentary playing fields. – 26 multi-purpose sports fields were built to date, with another 4 to be built at beneficiary schools in 2020/21.

– The Let’s Play Rugby Programme that introduces the sport of rugby to non-rugby playing primary schools.

– The provision of sports equipment and kit to participating schools and communities.

The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) is a shared-value initiative of the MultiChoice Group that provides a platform for the creative industries to develop their talent and engage with one another through their shared passions. This initiative has a multi-tiered approach, namely; the MTF Portal, the MTF Academies and MTF Industry Masterclasses. The MTF Academy is a first-of-its-kind education programme that develops emerging TV and film talent in Africa, through an accredited 12-month immersion programme including both theory and hands-on experience in cinematography, editing, audio production and storytelling.

2020 Highlights

In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Multichoice contributed to meeting the needs of many, especially the elderly in rural areas. As an entertainment company, they took to content and price adjustments to give customers access to news, education, religious celebrations and general entertainment for all ages from the comfort and safety of their homes.

They also collaborated with the World Health Organization (WHO) and local governments to develop and drive public awareness of Covid-19 across their channels.

In honour of Women’s Month in 2020, MultiChoice Group (MCG) partnered with the Department of Social Development (DSD) and other relevant organisations to speak out against the injustices of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
