IHS has the vision to be the leading provider of telecommunications infrastructure to mobile network operators enabling the widest, most efficient and reliable networks throughout the emerging markets by creating a connected world where telecommunications promote continued economic growth and social development throughout Africa. They specialize in the building of towers and helping mobile network operators to manage their sites.

IHS dedicates 0.0942% of her annual revenue to the four pillars of the group’s corporate social responsibility: Ethics, People, Environment and Education. With about 20 years of remarkable presence in telecommunications infrastructures for mobile network operators in Nigeria, IHS has developed expertise in all aspects of telecom towers with over 16,000 towers across the nation.

IHS operates in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Enugu, Asaba, Kano and Port Harcourt respectively in Nigeria and other countries such as respectively in Nigeria and other countries such as Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Zambia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru leveraging on a staff strength of more than 2,000 employees.

Environment

IHS Nigeria’s Generator Recycling Program donated recycled generators to local hospitals, schools and orphanages most in need across the country with over 9,100 people benefitting from these new sources of power.

Socials

Education: IHS launched two educational initiatives, namely School on Wheels and IHS Project Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to support the talent pipeline for high-growth STEM sectors with the aim of creating future technology leaders. The School on Wheels project provided training to over 7,200 students in 24 selected secondary schools across 12 states throughout the country.

IHS Skills for Life Program engaged 420 youngsters through training in entrepreneurship and skills. Participants were also provided with start-up tools to set up small-scale businesses.

IHS Nigeria sponsored the ThistlePraxis Consulting Sustainability Conversation Program, a platform that sought to discuss recent sustainable development initiatives in Nigeria. Following the event, a white paper was published and sent to policymakers in the private and public sectors for further action.

IHS Nigeria’s Employee Volunteering Program contributes to local community building through initiatives such as school rehabilitation, health center renovations, and mentoring sessions for school children and charity visits.

In addition, to promote good health and strengthen relations within our communities, IHS employees regularly clean up local operating environments.

2020 Highlights

In 2019, with a view to focusing on longer-term programs, we worked with UNICEF on their Child-Friendly Communities Initiative, a program encompassing health, well-being and education. We also established a partnership with USAID (the US Agency for International Development), making a financial donation to support the purchase of more than 60,000 HIV test kits to advance ongoing HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and management activities in Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

In 2019, we initiated the Mission-T Program, working with TechQuest to improve ICT education and participation. This multi-phase program has included hosting the Technovation Exhibition in Onikan, Lagos, launching an IHS STEM app for secondary schools featuring 65 interactive modules on the Nigerian ICT, Robotics and Coding curricula, and implementing teaching training, classroom teaching and 3D-printing classes. Over 4,500 pupils and teaches have benefited in Oyo, Rivers and Kano states.

In commemoration of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science they organized a science fair for young girls in three areas – Engineering and Robotics, Coding and Programming and Basic Science with over 178 students in participation. These programs help support the talent pipeline for high-growth STEM thereby aiming to help create future technological leaders.

During the UN World Environment Day in 2019, IHS Nigeria ran an employee education program on tackling air pollution, and how to conserve the environment and also organized country-wide tree planting initiatives across the majority of her entities, in line with national programs.
