Guinness Nigeria has their sustainability approach built on three pillars namely: Economy, Society and Environment. Guinness Nigeria has shown a high commitment to environmental sustainability by dedicating a budget of £180m to solar, biomass, and water recovery. Also, reducing their carbon footprint and prioritizing their operational efficiencies. In the last two years, they have made a remarkable improvement on their water usage by recycling up to 647,640 HL. Guinness Nigeria has a concentrated pillar to reduce their environmental footprint, such as carbon emission, wastewater, deforestation, and packaging. The company has a record of collaborating with stakeholders at regional level to strengthen and accelerate the collection and recycling of all kinds of plastics packaging.

Environment
Guinness Nigeria’s collaboration with Wecyclers, a for-profit social enterprise that promotes environmental sustainability, socio-economic development, and community health has created a support system for Guinness’s waste management agenda with the aim of implementing Guinness Nigeria’s 4R waste management strategy, covering REDUCTION, REUSE, RECOVERY and RECYCLING, while also addressing increasing local and global concerns around the environmental issues of waste disposal.
World Water Day Programme with Lagos Business School
Guinness Nigeria partnered with Lagos Business School (LBS) and other multinationals, environmental specialists, government agencies, policy makers and specialist academics to host a symposium that brought various stakeholders within the ecosystem together to deliberate and create awareness on policy measures, actions and means of implementing the water Sustainable Development Goals and targets in commemoration of the annual World Water day.
AFRICA PLASTICS RECYCLING ALLIANCE – TRANSFORMING PLASTICS WASTE INTO JOBS AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
Guinness Nigeria is exploring a model of job creation, promotion of economic activity, and reduce import dependency through improved collection recycling by tackling the threat plastic waste poses in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to their commitments to tackle plastics waste and collaborate through global collective action, such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment and are already engaged with national institutions and platforms in various markets.

Annual Ember Months’ Responsible Drinking Campaign
Guinness Nigeria runs an annual responsible drinking programme called the Ember Months’ campaign in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC). This is aimed at creating awareness and enlightening commercial motorists and the public on the dangers of drinking alcohol while driving. Each year, the company visits popular motor parks across the country to give talks and share information in local languages with commercial vehicle drivers, transporters, and motorcycle operators on the negative consequences of drink-driving and how to drink responsibly.
DRINKPositive Campaign
Guinness Nigeria also runs The DRINKPositive campaign, an internal awareness drive amongst employees where they are encouraged to share stories about how they, through their roles, help consumers to DRINKPositive by sharing tips on how people can make informed choices about drinking, or not drinking.
The initiative is aimed at leveraging their role as employees to connect with their value of promoting moderation and tackling harm that results from irresponsible consumption of alcohol. Guinness Nigeria has a commitment of striving to ensure people have positive experiences with alcohol.
Donation of Breathalysers
Guinness Nigeria donated 2 digital breathalysers to the Federal Road Safety Corps as part of its efforts in promoting safety on our roads. The donation of these state-of-the-art alcohol testing kits is part of our efforts towards safeguarding motorists and other road users by stemming the tide of accidents caused by drink-driving. This donation brings to four (4) the total number of breathalysers that have been donated by Guinness Nigeria to support the work of the FRSC.
Sustainable Agriculture program – Guinness Nigeria supports up to 5,000 smallholder farmers through their sustainable Agriculture program. This enhances their local sourcing capabilities and provides local farmers with a healthy source of income.





2020 Highlights
As a contribution towards the COVID-19 pandemic, Guinness Nigeria donated over 40,000 units of 500ml hand sanitizers to various government agencies across the country. They also made contributions of non-alcoholic products to frontline health care workers and people in vulnerable communities.
In May 2020, the company launched a digital campaign to support bartenders/bar owners. 4,000 bartenders/bar owners were gifted special care packages mainly containing food items to help ameliorate the hardship suffered as a result of their inability to work occasioned by the various lockdown measures announced by the federal and state governments.
During the year, Guinness Nigeria continued its responsible drinking culture through its partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) through a capacity building workshop for road safety and traffic management officials. A capacity building workshop on road safety was held and had in attendance representatives from the Nigerian Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Service and related NGOs.
Through their scholarship scheme, they have sponsored 19 students from different parts of the country. studying STEM and engineering related courses in tertiary and vocational institutions in their host communities across the country.
Lastly, through the implementation of their Water of Life schemes in 4 states across Nigeria, they have delivered 153% of their F20 water replenishment target of 153,272 m3.
