Dangote cement sustainability approach is driven by the goal of achieving the highest level of governance, its 7 sustainability pillars are embedded in its corporate culture and guide our approach to building a prosperous and sustainable business. The company’s sustainability approach is built on the premise that sustainability must be owned and practiced at every level in their organization, more especially at the highest levels of institutional governance. Dangote also leverages on continuous investment in extensive stakeholder consultations.

In 2019, Dangote made a remarkable improvement in their environment performance. i.e. total volume of greenhouse gases – 687kg CO2, Energy consumption – 41,018,310GJ, Co2 emission – 16.4MT, respectively.

2020 Highlights

Employee Volunteerism:

Education Cluster: Dangote Cement has prioritised educational empowerment as a key corporate social responsibility and social investment initiative because of the overarching role it plays in socioeconomic and human capital advancement. Staff in different locations volunteered their skills and competences to promote education in host communities. Employees at Dangote Cement Ethiopia donated educational materials including notebooks, bags, writing materials and other stationary to five schools in their host communities.

Health Cluster: In 2020, employee health interventions were channelled towards supporting host communities in combating COVID-19 and curbing the spread of the pandemic. Employees donated COVID-19 personal protective items such as face masks, hand sanitisers, hand washing soaps, hand gloves, among other things to members of host communities. Employees also carried awareness and sensitisation programmes.

Environmental Cluster: Tree planting was a major volunteering initiative undertaken by Dangote Cement operations in 2020. The aim is to promote afforestation and reforestation and trigger the carbon sequestration role that trees play in our ecosystem.
